EXU·Episode 3·Summary

EXU E3 in brief

April 2026·1 min readCovers through EXUE3 — spoilers to there, none beyond

The Crown Keepers walk back into Emon — the city that wants them dead — because their only lead points there: Shaun Gilmore. Their tradecraft is a joke. Dariax distracts the gate with a glittering burlesque alter-ego, “Tharla Starr,” whose Thaumaturgy-boosted “Hi” rivets the whole square; the escape collapses into a fake lost toddler, an impromptu street concert, and a hat-stealing fire spirit. A dart marks Fearne with poison and a coordinated kill-team gives chase, but Dariax cons them off the scent as a grumbling old dwarf, and the party reaches Gilmore’s Glorious Goods.

There the episode’s spine lands. Gilmore — a legend of the prior generation, possible secret councilor — is summoned from Marquet to identify their stolen crown as a Vestige of Divergence bound to the Spider Queen: the Circlet of Barbed Vision. He heals Fearne, frees Dariax from the crown’s mark (Dariax alone sees spiders crawling from every face), names the Nameless Ones a real and deadly enemy, and against his caution entrusts the relic to the party with a one-use box to hand it back. He reads the rune only far enough to set the quest: it’s Qoniira, a civilization lost before the Calamity in the Rifenmist jungles south of Byroden; find a translator there and he can decode the mesa’s warning.

After a long, comedic shopping spree, Gilmore’s own smuggling cart turns out to be a trap — Poska, the Nameless Ones’ leader, at the reins. Cornered, Fearne charms Poska into standing down, but Dariax’s parting taunt forges a permanent enemy whose rage “will burn Emon alive.” To protect Gilmore, the Keepers spend their one escape hatch warning him — binding the Spider Queen’s crown to themselves for good. They ride south. Unresolved: the rune, Poska’s vengeance, the crown’s hold on whoever touches it.
