EXU E1 in brief

November 2025·1 min readCovers through EXUE1 — spoilers to there, none beyond

Five strangers wake in Emon with a week of shared memory missing and a forgotten companion they can’t name, squatting in a dead rich man’s townhouse. Over one rain-soaked morning they bond through cheerful degeneracy, take a thieving job from Poska — a small-time crook who pities them and expects them to fail — and rob the Blightstar, a Ruidus-marked Issylran ship whose entire crew was slaughtered guarding a single cursed onyx crown. They escape with the crown, hunted by vapor-assassins of the Nameless Ones who want only it, and are ambushed at Poska’s warehouse. Nearly losing Opal, they turn the fight around — Opal from victim to double-killer, Dariax ending it with holy fire — and break into the guild’s true vault: a hoard of refined residuum, half of it smuggled from Orym’s homeland of Zephrah. The heist becomes a conspiracy. Orym, the reluctant moral center, redirects them all: take the residuum to the Fire Ashari and warn home. They keep the crown from Poska’s hands, abandon her deal, and commit to a bigger, deadlier road together — “it’s still going to be fun.” The cost arrives cold in the final breath: Poska returns to her ruined warehouse, presses a sigil on her wrist, says “Burn it down,” and the Keepers’ home goes up in flame. Unresolved: the crown’s nature and the Ruidus connection; the erased week and the forgotten companion; Opal’s lost twin Ted, the source of her power; the residuum conspiracy implicating the Ashari; and Poska, now a deadly enemy.
